Puff embroidery for bold designs
3D embroidery, also known as puff embroidery, uses a specialist foam layer beneath the top stitches. The stitches wrap around the foam to create a raised design that is both visible and tactile.
This technique performs best with bold shapes, strong lettering and closed areas. We assess your artwork first and, when needed, recommend a combination of flat embroidery and selected 3D elements.

Is your artwork suitable?
Bold shapes create the strongest 3D effect
Not every detail can be executed reliably in 3D. Thin lines, tiny lettering and open shapes may be better in flat embroidery or a combined technique. We provide clear technical advice before production.

Technique and material
What determines professional 3D embroidery?
In professional 3D embroidery, the embroidery file, foam, thread, substrate and machine settings work as one system. Simply adding more stitches is not enough. The artwork is digitised specifically for raised embroidery so the foam is fully enclosed and letters or shapes retain their height.
A file designed for depth
We determine stitch direction, density, underlay and the order in which elements are embroidered. Corners and endpoints receive extra attention so no foam remains visible.
Height without unnecessary stiffness
The thickness and colour of the embroidery foam are matched to the artwork and thread. This creates clear depth, closed edges and a professional appearance.
Caps, garments and accessories
Structured cap fronts are particularly suitable for puff embroidery. For hoodies, jackets, beanies and bags, we assess stability, stretch and placement before recommending a raised finish.
Sampling and repeatability
An initial sample shows how the substrate, colours and depth work together. After approval, we record relevant production settings to support consistent repeat orders.
Artwork choice
3D embroidery, flat embroidery or a combination?
3D embroidery works especially well for compact logos, initials, sports lettering and brand marks with strong closed shapes. Fine details, small text and thin lines are often clearer in flat embroidery. Both techniques can be combined in one design: the main element receives raised depth while subtler components are stitched flat.
For larger areas or a different texture, embroidered badges, chenille or appliqué may also be suitable. AJDN compares the options according to artwork, product, use and quantity. The aim is not automatically the most dramatic effect, but a technically reliable execution that supports the identity of your brand.

We support an initial sample, a limited merchandise release and recurring production programmes. AJDN can source suitable caps or garments, produce the embroidery and combine it with neck labels, hangtags, packaging, stock management and worldwide shipping.
For an accurate quotation, send us the logo, required dimensions, placement, product choice, quantities and schedule. A vector file is ideal, but a clear PDF or image can also be assessed. Before production, you receive guidance on technical feasibility, a suitable alternative when details are too fine, and a transparent proposal.

No fixed 3D surcharge
The standard stitch-price table applies. 3D designs often use more stitches and may therefore cost more.
Bold shapes and larger lettering
Front, upper sleeve and caps are recommended. Large solid areas and very small details are less suitable and are checked first.

Rush work is possible after material, stock and production planning have been confirmed. Shipping is excluded.

Practical information about 3D embroidery
What is 3D embroidery and how is the raised effect made?
With 3D puff, special foam sits on top of the fabric. Dense stitches cover the foam, making selected parts of the logo visibly and physically raised.
Which logos are suitable for 3D embroidery?
Bold lettering, strong shapes and sufficient spacing work best. Very small text, thin lines and intricate detail are less suitable.
Can 3D embroidery be used on caps, sweatshirts and jackets?
Yes. Structured caps and heavier fabrics usually give the most stable result. We check shape, tension and access for every garment.
Can flat and 3D embroidery be combined in one logo?
Yes. Fine details can be stitched flat while selected letters or shapes are raised, provided the artwork leaves enough space.
Can I approve a sample first?
Yes. A paid physical sample is available from one item. For a confirmed order from 100 items, one physical production sample is free; additional samples are quoted first.
How should I care for 3D embroidery?
Wash inside out at a maximum of 30 °C. Do not bleach, tumble dry or iron directly over the decoration; follow the strictest garment-label instruction.
Which file should I provide?
Email AI, EPS or PDF to info@ajdn.com. A transparent PNG at final size and 300 dpi can also be assessed. Production files are not sent through WhatsApp.
