What is Direct to Film?
Direct to Film (DTF) is a digital printing method in which an artwork is printed in colour and white onto a specialist PET film. A hot-melt adhesive bonds the print to the textile during heat application. AJDN applies the transfer with controlled time, temperature and pressure.
Because no screens are required, DTF is suitable for multicolour logos, small lettering, gradients, personalised names and multiple design variations within one order. It can be applied to light and dark garments made from cotton, polyester and many blended fabrics.

Chest logo example
A chest logo approximately 60 mm wide generally costs around €2.50 in printing charges. The garment and 21% VAT are not included.
Back print example
A back logo generally costs €3.50 to €6. Large solid artwork may rise to around €10 due to ink consumption.

Regular production orders are normally shipped within 1–5 working days once the order, artwork, approval and materials are production-ready. Transit time is separate.

When is DTF suitable for your apparel production?
DTF is a strong option for full-colour artwork, fine detail, variable graphics and production across different fabric types. For a particularly soft result on cotton garments, Direct to Garment may sometimes be preferable. We advise the most suitable available AJDN technique for the garment, artwork and production goal.
AJDN considers the artwork, garment use, desired finish, washing requirements, quantity and schedule. This allows us to recommend a method that supports the product and business objective.

Questions about Direct to Film garment printing
What is Direct to Film garment printing?
AJDN prints the design with colour and a white underbase onto transfer film, applies adhesive powder, cures the transfer and presses it onto the garment under controlled conditions. Pressing, finishing and quality control are included in the printing charge.
How much does DTF garment printing by AJDN cost?
Indicative business printing charges excluding the garment and 21% VAT are around €2.50 for a chest logo approximately 60 mm wide and €3.50 to €6 for a back logo. Large solid artwork may rise to around €10 due to ink use. AJDN confirms the price in advance.
Which garments and materials can be printed with DTF?
DTF works on many cotton, polyester, denim and blended garments. Technical coatings, unknown materials, heat-sensitive textiles and nylon are assessed and tested where necessary.
How long does DTF garment production take?

Can I supply my own garments?
Yes, only new, unworn and unwashed garments that are technically suitable. Customer-supplied items are processed at the customer’s risk. We recommend a test for unfamiliar, exclusive or valuable garments.
Which production files should I supply?
Preferably email a transparent PNG at actual production size and at least 300 dpi, or AI, EPS or PSD, to info@ajdn.com. Do not send production files through WhatsApp. AJDN checks every file before production.
How should I care for DTF-printed garments?
Wait at least 24 hours before the first wash. Wash inside out at a maximum of 30 °C, do not tumble dry and do not iron directly over the decoration. The strictest instruction for the garment and print applies.
Does AJDN also sell loose DTF transfers?
Yes. Businesses, printers and resellers that press in-house can order loose DTF transfers by the metre through the dedicated DTF Transfers for Businesses page.
